I love Serenity Tales and the fridge notes is a great one. Not to mention almost every comic related to Firefly & Serenity.

All the AP you could need and then some. And because Reuters would get jealous if they weren't mentioned.

Its the post-turkey-day rebound

Zoobombers + Gus Van Sant = Matt Damon doing math problems on a mini-bike while riding down an insanely large hill. Backwards.

You can never find a dead mall when you need one.

Re-gifting: even in space there's cheap crap you don't want.

Let's Get Political

Here's how it is. During mid-term elections, most people seem to plug in and tune out. The big elections are usually the presidential ones. Maybe its because we feel a greater sense of involvement when it comes to presidential elections, even though we don't really elect the president (see Electoral College). More importantly the mid-term elections are closer to the heart of local affairs. Ballot measures, levys, governors. If you are registered to vote, don't vote and complain later you have 0 rights to your complaints. You should have voted. There are too many swing voters out there to just sit back and assume everyone else will vote the way you want without having to sit down at the kitchen table and decide for yourself. If you feel disconected from the process find a way to get involved. Start by voting.

Oregon State voting shtuff - like voting resources and the voting pamphlet.

Blue and Red make purple.

There's a wiki for everything, including Oregon ballot measures for the current and past elections.

Thoughts on Halloween

In the interest of discovering the origins of a celebration before participation, here is some food for thought: Wikipedia.

In addition, here is a quote from the book The Worship of the Dead by Colonel J. Garnier because I couldn't find an electronic copy to link to: "The mythologies of all the ancient nations are interwoven with the events of the Deluge... The force of this arguments is illustrated by the fact of the observance of a great festival of the dead in commemoration of the event, not only by nations more or less in communication with each other, but by other widely separated, both by the ocean and by centuries of time. This festival is, moreover, held by all on or about the very day on which, according to the Mosaic account, the Deluge took plac, viz., the seventeenth day of hte second month -- the month nearly corresponding with our November." Halloween and other Saints days are on the anniversary of the distruction of a world of ungodly people at the Flood.
